In this lesson, we shared the different places we would all like to go for summer vacation. Then, the students thought about how they could include elements of their favorite location in their self portraits.

The portraits show the artists' special interests as well as amazing representations of the artists, themselves!

Markers were used for coloring by the younger group (6-9), and chalk pastels for the older students (10-12).

A collection of art depicting pet portraits inspired by what was learned about the famous artists Frida Kahlo and Ron Burns. The class listened to stories about the lives and works of these two artists and selected animals and pets for these portraits. Some of the images came from local animal shelters in hopes of helping promote adoption.
